A bit of an odd-ball from birth, it's perhaps little wonder that I found my way into the design and collection of quirky things. I've always been drawn to stuff - and people - that are different, that stand out... must be those years spent at Drama school, always wanting to make an impact. In any case, a lifetime spent travelling the world (I was born in Chile and have lived in Colombia, Venezuela, Germany, Portugal, Thailand and, of course, here) gave me a unique global outlook, and 10 years buried in publishing gave me access to the world's leading inspirational magazines and time to page through them, all in the name of research.
At the helm of Real Simple magazine, it was one of my glorious duties to plan and conceptualise home shoots, in the process finding that the seed had been planted for what would become my next project, this little design and decor business in which I get to play to my heart's content. At Quirky.Me, my goal is to bring you beautiful and fun decor items that will help you shape your home into a space that reflects a little bit of your own off-beat personality. I conceptualise a large part of the products myself, and put them into production here in South Africa with the help of incredibly talented local designers and craftspeople. I also take huge pleasure in sourcing quirky products that catch my eye from local creatives and artisans, as well as working with these talents to create products and ranges that are specific to my store. A multi-tasker at heart, I also still regularly take on freelance projects, working on anything from magazine publishing to catalogue production.
